On the 4th, as a kid, we would spend most of the day at the big park 2 towns over watching the fire department set up the fireworks, having a picnic lunch, and fishing off the dock. There were mini donut and popcorn vendors set up, and for the last few hours before dark and the start of the fireworks show, the community band (my dad was the tuba player!) would play patriotic songs and oldies. I remember the band members all wearing flag pins on their lapels<\/a> along with their skimmer hats decorated with a red,white, and blue ribbon as the hatband.<\/p>\n
