When I graduated from college (and I won’t tell the year!) I wore shorts under my gown and carried 2 dozen beach balls in a couple of the then-fashionable fanny packs.

As the commencement speech got rolling I blew up beach balls and people started batting them around.

Now, I am certain some pre-med student named William Whatchamacallit the 4th had a grandparent in the audience who did not appreciate the auditorium looking like a popcorn machine full of beachballs.

I did notice a couple off the Summa Cum Laude group, and even a grandparent or two smiling and whaking the colorful beachballs when they landed near them.
