Invasive Species, Aquatic Hitchhikers? Sounds like an H. G. Wells Book!

Well we do have these and we need to keep them out of our lakes and waters.
Aquatic Hitchhikers include Eurasian Water Milfoil, Hydrilla, Rusty Crayfish, Spiny Water Flea, and Zebra Mussels. These and other characters are members of the motley crew of things that can screw up plant growth, waterfowl, and fisheries in our waters.

The best way to stop these creatures of the lagoon is to be sure we do not transport them from an infected body of water to another lake or wetland.
These stowaways can be found on boat trailers, hulls, in ballasts, minnow buckets, and live wells.

Americans love the water. From boating, waterskiing and tubing to sailing, kayaking and canoeing. Not to mention fishing, diving, and snorkeling!
We all stand to be adversely affected if we do not control the spread of these harmful plants and critters.

The U.S. Coast Guard, many clubs, and state and federal agencies have teamed up with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to spread the word on how we
can protect or waterways, rivers, and streams.

Many State Departments of Natural Resources, and State Departments of Fish and wildlife are distributing key rings at boat landings and marinas to spread the word and remind people to use precautions to remove Aquatic hitchhikers from boats and water craft. The Floating, Boat / Marine key chains come
in a number of styles from foam to plastic.
