The Pen is Mighter than the Sword

I’m not knocking pens, they certainly work good and look nicer than pencils, but here’s a great urban legend about them (see this Wikipedia entry for what really happened):

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity.

To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $11 million developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300° C.

Pens, pencils… they all write just as well on earth. But, pens look nicer, last longer, and are bolder. People use pens every day. And I also know that everyone loves free stuff, so why not pens? They’re cheap and yet can carry your company’s name lots of places.
